GIYANI-The Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Councillor Pule Shayi calls to condemn theft of
transformers and vandalism of boreholes in Maruleng Local Municipality. From the first incident, a transformer was stolen and a borehole vandalised at The Oaks village on Sunday .
The Municipality opened a case of theft and vandalism of property in Hoedspruit Police Station. Another transformer was stolen and the borehole vandalised at Bismark village on Monday . And another case of theft and vandalism of property was reported at Maake Police Station.
The Executive Mayor has called on communities to close ranks and isolate criminals.
“We are worried that these acts of criminality undermine our efforts to ensure consistent water supply
to our people. We mustn’t allow criminals to thrive in our communities. Let us work together to
safeguard our water infrastructure and other government’s property. We must ensure that we have
functional community policing forums in all our wards in the district, as well as supporting and
respecting their work. We are also making an appeal to our communities to share information that will
assist law enforcement authorities as they proceed with investigations”.
