Mob kills man suspected of killing his five-year-old cousin in Namakgale

NAMAKGALE-The brutal murder of 5-year-old, Kgohlelelo Selowa on Monday afternoon prompted residents of Makhushane-Nyakelane 3 in Namakgale to search for suspect and kill the suspect in a ghastly fashion.

According to the police on Monday, June 6, 2022 at about 4:30 pm, the child’s mother returned from work and when she did not find her two minor children at home, she assumed they were playing at the neighbour’s house like they always do.

She was alarmed when she found only the eldest and started looking for the 05-year-old with the help of community members, police said.

It was only after some time that the distraught mother decided to check inside her nephew’s room who is staying few houses away and made the shocking discovery of the infant’s lifeless body next to the basin, police said.

Police were immediately notified and upon arrival, the body of the child was found with multiple stab wounds.

A case of murder was opened and Police started with initial investigations. A knife and sharp object believed to be the weapons used during the murder were found next to the body. The suspect had already fled the scene, police added.

Around 8pm, the alleged suspect was stalked and attacked by members of the community, when the police arrived on the scene, they found the suspect seriously assaulted and tied up with a rope.

He was rescued and taken to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries in the early hours of today, 07 June 2022 at about 00:40.

The deceased suspect was identified as Kagiso Moyane (27).

The Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has warned communities to refrain from taking the law into their own hands following Moyane’s murder.

The Police have opened cases of murder and there are no arrests yet in the mob justice incident. Anyone with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspects should contact Lieutenant Colonel Lilian Mahlathi on 082 469 1240, Crime stop number 0860010111or the nearest police, added Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
