MALAMULELE-The body of a man who went missing while fishing on Monday, August 21, was found floating in the Dam.
Amos Macebele, from Xigamani village outside Malamulele, allegedly drowned while fishing after his fellow fisherman noticed his belongings, including a bicycle, cooler bag, shoes, and cell phone outside the dam.
It is reported that he woke up on Monday morning like he normally does on the days informed his mother Mphephu Macebele that he was going to the dam for fishing and he usually goes to the dam for fishing alone and never returned home.
Another fisherman went back home and informed the family members after noticing that the victim was not returning to get his belongings and time had already gone by.
All relevant stakeholders were informed about this incident.
The community members went out for a search in the bush. The SAPS divers unit as well as the K9 unit were informed, and before they arrived at the dam, the community members noticed the body of a man floating in the water.
Upon the divers’ arrival, the body was taken out of the water and it was confirmed that it was him.
Mayor Collins Chabane’s local municipality, Cllr Shadrack Maluleke, visited the family on Thursday.
“The loss of our residents in this manner is quite disturbing. As the Municipality, we are here to pledge our support to the family and the entire community of Xigamani village”
“I express my deepest sympathy for your brother’s passing. I am here on behalf of Collins Chabane Local Municipality to express our regret for the tragic incident that occurred”, he said.
An inquest docket has been opened.
Macebele will be laid to rest on Saturday at Xigamani village.
