Le Roux’s path to the crown was one of overcoming challenges and breaking barriers.
Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one, she faced adversity early in life. However, with the unwavering support of her community and her own determination, she turned her challenges into opportunities to advocate for the deaf community.
Le Roux’s participation in the Miss South Africa competition was a testament to her strength, and her presence on the reality show “Crown Chasers,” where she won several episodes, further endeared her to audiences and judges alike.
“I believe I deserve to win the title as I embody resilience, strength, and the ubuntu spirit within South Africa,” Le Roux said in her application for the pageant. “As a deaf woman with a cochlear implant, I represent a community that often goes unheard. My journey is a testament to the power of dreams and determination we all possess.”
The competition was fierce, with Le Roux standing out in a field of exceptional finalists, including Nompumelelo Maduna from Soweto, who was the runner-up, and Onalenna Constantin from Potchefstroom, who placed third.
These contestants, along with others like Layla Zoubair and Kirsten Khan, showcased the best of South African beauty and talent, making the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant one of the most thrilling in recent years.
Despite facing public scrutiny and controversy, particularly after the withdrawal of contestant Chidimma Adetshina, the Miss South Africa organization delivered a spectacular event that culminated in Le Roux’s well-deserved crowning.
As Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux will receive a host of rewards, including a R1 million cash prize, a luxury apartment, and a Mercedes vehicle. However, more importantly, she will have the platform to champion causes close to her heart, including advocating for the deaf community and promoting inclusivity.
