TZANEEN- The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) assisted Ntsako Shipalana, a local poultry from Mhlaba village in growing her business.

The fund is aimed to empower youth who have business ideas, and those who are already in business at a small and medium scale. The fund is aligned with the implementation of the Limpopo Development Strategy to grow positively the economy and create jobs.

Shipalana has grown her business from just selling three chickens a day to being a mega distributor of live and cleaned chickens across the province, to the customer’s doorstep.

The owner of Olori chickens based in Ofcalaco, Tzaneen, received a financial boost of R45 000 to her poultry business from NYDA  in 2019, two years after it was established. 

The vibrant female farmer used the funding to extend her chicks’ input, employ full-time workers and market her business. 

“The biggest challenge I faced was getting my business off the ground in the manner of winning clients, The NYDA helped because through its funding was able to get the things I needed at once and extended the chick’s production”. 

The Business studies graduate is not your typical woman who’s comfortable behind the office desk, she brings a different energy of being fond of getting her hands dirty and muddy on the farms.

Growing up in a business-oriented and agriculturist family, made her possess the right business decorum that helps to keep her ventures together both financially and uniquely.

She’s currently growing over 1000 chickens and sells them either live or slaughtered while packaged in branded Olori chickens plastic and delivering them to the customers’ doorstep.

Given her immense knowledge in poultry farming, Shipalana is also hosting seminars that equip farmers and chicken hopeful farmers with skills through her manuals.
