MOKOPANE: Limpopo Health department has launched an internal investigation following a case in which a mental health care user allegedly strangled to death a fellow mental healthcare user patient in the ward.
The incident happened at the mental health care user ward of George Masebe Hospital in Mokopane under Mogalakwena municipality in the Waterberg District in the early hours of Sunday, May 22.
Limpopo Health Spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says the two patients had been admitted to the hospital to be stabilized in line with the 72-hour protocols for treating mental health care users.
Police were called to the scene and they are conducting their own investigations.
The MEC has on behalf of the department conveyed a message of condolences to the family and friends of the deceased patient.
The department says further details will be made available after investigation.
