POLOKWANE-Bomma sneakers are by far one of the most durable, flexible and affordable sneaker brands to emerge out of Limpopo. Founded and created by Lacia Buthane, 39 from Ga-Rammobola village in Moletjie, the sneaker has taken the sneaker industry by storm.

In conversation with Tzaneen Voice, Buthane reflected on his journey.

“I was lucky to be raised by both my mother and father. My childhood was peaceful and memorable because life was slow back then. I did everything any village boy grew up doing like herding cattle, swimming in rivers and riding donkeys. I cherish those memories”, he said.

“I completed electrical engineering, but, I had outgrown the career. I then had a sit down with my wife to map out a way forward. She is the one who pitched the name “Bomma” after we agreed to start manufacturing sneakers. It’s a special name because it resonates with everyone who has a relationship with a woman, be it a mother, sister or wife. It made sense”, he added.

The businessman said the brand is only over a year old, but, has already garnered a partnership with Thobela FM to manufacture “Thobela Bomma sneakers” which is the biggest highlight of his journey thus far.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I will be where I am today, but, I had patience and understood that a dream without action is useless. I started with only two pairs, thus, partnering with SABC is a great milestone”, he said.

In closing, Buthane said people must not be afraid to start small and with nothing. That if they choose to study, they must choose a career they love.
