POLOKWANE- Although the Limpopo ANC Chairperson Stan Mathabatha emerged ahead with 1 492 branch nominations for NEC chairperson, over the incumbent Gwede Mantashe and David Masondo, his lobbyists feel used by ANC Gauteng in the branch nominations.

It is said that during the branch nominations for the upcoming ANC national conference, both Limpopo and Gauteng PECs agreed to nominate the hopeful ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile from Gauteng in their majority and nominate Mathabatha for the national chairperson in their majority.

” During nominations of the national conference, Limpopo branches nominated the Gauteng candidate (Mashatile) in their majority for DP. but Gauteng branches did not nominate the Limpopo candidate (Mathabatha) for the national chair in their majority ” the source said.

Thabo Mabotja who is a staunch campaigner of Mathabatha said on Facebook ” Gauteng used Limpopo towards BGM nominations. we are not in a marriage with people who can’t honour their end of the deal, we will return the favour”.

Mathabatha got 151 branch nominations from Gauteng below Masondo’s 182 nominations, while he amassed 502 nominations from KZN and was nominated by 388 branches in Limpopo.

102 branches in Limpopo ditched their provincial chairperson in favour of other candidates for national chair, while former President Jacob Zuma got 1 branch nomination in the province.

With Limpopo feeling betrayed by Gauteng in the position of deputy president, the province might consider getting into political horse-trading with either Lamola or Mabuyane for the D.P. position.

With the top six ballots closed, any other candidate can only be added from the floor when voting opens on 16 December, should they receive the 25% branches support
