MARIVENI: A 21 – year old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she was attacked with a panga by her boyfriend this past weekend.
The victim, Phumzile Hlongwani suffered severe injuries on the arms, ear and head.
Hlongwani, who is a mother of a 9-month-old child was arguing with her 24-year-old boyfriend outside a tavern in Mariveni on Saturday night where he attacked her with a panga.
According to Phumzile’s younger sister, Thulisile Hlongwani, the couple had issues immediately after the birth of their child.
“Phumzile wanted to break up with the suspect as he was abusing but he refused, making threats that he would kill her if she continued to ignore him,” said the 17-year-old.
“On Saturday, he waited for her to leave a local tavern, followed her and attacked with a panga, hitting her on the arm, ear and almost her head to half,” she continued
“Another victim, Themba Matsimbi heard Phumzile’s screaming and went to the rescue, however, he was also attacked with a panga and sustained severe injuries on the arms”, said Thulisile
The victim is still receiving treatment at an Intensive Care Unit ( ICU )
