MARIVENI- According to a community member, the hippo was killed by a white man with a gun in one of the local rivers, in Mariveni village, Greater Tzaneen, earlier today.
It is reported that word got out to the community about the incident. Villagers flocked to the river to witness the incident and some helped themselves to the meat and other body parts of the mammal.
The police and SPCA have been alerted.
