MARIVENI : Residents at Mariveni village in Greater Tzaneen woke up to great shock when they saw a three-room house on fire on Friday morning.
Upon rushing to the scene, they found a 76 – year old dead after suffering third-degree burns in the bedroom.
One community member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Tzaneen Voice that she was on the way to work when she saw a house on fire.
‘I was on the way to work when I saw the house burning, I immediately called for help and we rushed to the house and managed to extinguish the fire.’
‘Afterwards, we went inside the house and found a half-naked, lifeless body of a pensioner that was staying in the house.’
We called for her grandson but he was nowhere to be found and we called Ritavi police and emergency personnel,’ said anonymous
The pensioner, aged 76 was confirmed dead by emergency personnel who were also to called to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established as it is subject to investigations.
The identity of the deceased is known to Tzaneen Voice, however, it will remain withheld from the public until the process of informing family members is complete.
