Man’s body found hanging from roof of his house at Mhlaba Cross

MHLABA VILLAGE-Residents of Mhlaba cross village in Greater TZANEEN were on Monday shocked after a 29-year-old man’s body was found hanging from the roof of his house.

The man’s body was discovered by his family dangling from the roof of his house on Monday morning.

Police and emergency services were called out to the residence at approximately 06:30.

On arrival, the father of two kids was found hanging on the roof showing no signs of life and was declared deceased.

According to his family, they found him hanging from a rafter when they woke up in the morning.

A rope was tied around his neck and a chair was found beneath him in the room where he hanged himself.

The cause of the incident was not known as there was no letter found at the scene

The police confirmed that an inquest was opened and they were still investigating.

According to the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag), the classic symptoms of depression include:

  • Depressed mood and feeling down and sad all the time. This can often present as irritability, agitation or anger (in children, adolescents and men).
  • Inability to enjoy activities or hobbies previously found to be enjoyable.
  • Feelings of hopelessness or helplessness.
  • Feelings of guilt or low self-worth.
  • Fatigue or loss of energy.
  • Restless or irritable.
  • Changes in eating habits and/or weight.
  • Inability to sleep or excessive sleepiness.
  • Difficulty making decisions or concentrating.
  • Withdrawing from friends and family.
  • Thoughts of death or suicide.

Depression is often triggered by stressful events, illness, drug and alcohol abuse, and genetic factors.
