Mankweng Man Secretly Buries His Dead Mother

MANKWENG-Losing a parent can make you feel as if the ground is shifting under your feet.

It can unmoor even the sturdiest of individuals, but the 29-year-old Maletja Mogashoa’s reaction to his mother’s death remains one for the books.

He was living with his 54-year-old mother, Cathy Mogashoa Monywaneng Village in Mankweng, Capricorn District when she mysteriously disappeared from the community earlier on April 27.

Where most people might feel a sense of a loss or the need to reconsider one’s life, the unemployed son allegedly secretly buried her mom alone because she was not a member of any Burial Society.

Her absence in the funerals and other functions caused the community to be concerned and they approached the son.

She was reported missing while her son continued with his life as if nothing had happened.

He denied any knowledge of her whereabouts and became a crucial person to take responsibility in terms of informing the authorities about her mom’s disappearance.

The community decided to approach the no nonsense Conty Lebepe Foundation for assistance after realising that the police were “dragging their feet” in finding the woman and her son.

It was only after the intervention by the Foundation that the suspect was hauled out of his hiding place in Tembisa at Phuma Silwe Section on Saturday night.

He allegedly confessed where he buried his mother, because she doesn’t have a burial society.

He was handed over to the police and arrested for concealment of death.

The deceased’s body was found buried in a shallow grave near the river.

According to some community members the deceased was very active in the community and the leading singer in most of the funerals.

She was laid to rest Sunday, May 29, Meanwhile her son is expected to appear in court soon.
