Man who shot wife dead during church sermon appears in court

THOHOYANDOU: Murder accused Avapfani Eric Mundalamo appeared before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court in the Vhembe District on Wednesday.

The 54-year-old handed himself over to the police after he shot and killed his estranged wife.

Worship House lead singer, Funanani  Mbedzi Mundalamo was at an Easter church service when she was ambushed by two bullets emanating from her husband’s pistol.

The 45-year-old died on the scene while the suspect fled in a Toyota Corolla plunging congregations at church to instant mourning.

The Police say the motive of this senseless shooting is unknown however domestic violence cannot be ruled out.

It is reported that the pair were in the process of getting divorced.

Mbedzi-Mundalamo will be laid to rest at the Khubvi Cemetery on Sunday. She is survived by two children aged 7 and a 17-year-old teenager, who will be taking the Matric exam later this year.

Murder accused, Eric Mundalamo will return to the dock on June 10th for a formal bail application.
