VUWANI-Police in Vuwani are on the hunt for four suspects after a man was shot and killed while relieving himself at the side of the road. The tragic incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Friday.
According to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, police spokesperson, the victim and his friend had been driving along the Tshimbupfe gravel road after leaving a local liquor outlet. Along their journey, they encountered four African males requesting a lift, but the pair chose not to stop.
“Shortly after passing the individuals, the deceased stopped the vehicle to relieve himself. In an instant, gunshots were fired,” explained Brigadier Mashaba.
The driver attempted to flee the scene but lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a nearby fence. It was then that he realized his passenger had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services and the police quickly responded to the scene, but the victim was declared dead upon arrival.
A case of murder has since been opened, although the motive behind the killing remains unclear at this stage. Authorities are calling on anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
