LENYENYE: The Lenyenye Regional Court has this past Friday convicted and sentenced Piet Motolla (34), of Rapitsi village to life imprisonment for rape and 20 years of direct imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Motolla came across the victim near the Kgapane bridge, as she was on her way from her friend’s house, he then hit her with a bottle on her face, took her cellphone and before raping her in the early hours of New Year’s Day ( January 1st 2015 ).
The accused was unknown to the victim.
State prosecutor Pearl Ledwaba relied on DNA evidence and the medical report from the forensic nurse (Maepa Alice of Kgapane Hospital) to link the accused, as well as the cellphone which was recovered from the accused’s girlfriend.
The court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name should be registered on the National Register of Sex Offenders (NRSO).
