Man linked with Winter Sekgobela’s murder still on the run

LENYENYE -The South African Police Service is urging the community to come forward with information that can lead to the arrest of a 28-year-old male suspect responsible for a murder at a local tavern in Khujwana village, in Greater Tzaneen.

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Willy Khosa was causing a disturbance at the tavern when a 40-year-old security officer, Winter Sekgobela, attempted to intervene. Khosa became violent, stabbing Sekgobela in the upper body with a sharp object before fleeing the scene on foot.

Sekgobela tried to drive himself to the hospital but his vehicle stopped just a few meters from the tavern. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene, where Sekgobela was pronounced dead.

Sekgobela was not only known for his work in the security industry but also for his relentless efforts in fighting crime and improving the safety of his community. His commitment to making Greater Tzaneen a safer place earned him the admiration and respect of many.

A massive manhunt for Khosa has been underway since the incident.

The police are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information that can lead to Khosa’s arrest.

Sekgobela was laid to rest on March 15 at Lenyenye.
