Man killed seven members of the family referred to a psychiatric facility

THOHOYANDOU : The High Court in Thohoyandou has granted an order for Enoch Ndou to be referred to a psychiatric facility for mental observation.

The accused broke down during trial proceedings yesterday, immediately after his lawyer mentioned that he was diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder.

The 53 – year old is accused of shooting dead his 7 family members at Jimmy Jones village near Malamulele on Christmas Day 2021.

Ndou’s lawyer, Kagiso Muthivithi has told the court that his client was previously diagnosed and treated for Schizophrenia.

The lawyer says Ndou only stopped taking medication in 2021 when he moved to Mahikeng, after realizing that he no longer needed it.

The accused will be examined today and is expected to return to court on Friday.
