PHALABORWA-The Lulekani police have again proven that crime does not pay, by securing the conviction of a 32-year-old man who terrorised the community of Lulekani township.
Advice Maswanganyi, who was arrested by the police after he had terrorised the community, has been sentenced to 10 years for his heinous crimes.
Maswanganyi was arrested in January and spent his time in the holding cells until the August 25 when he appeared in court and was sentenced on charges of theft from motor vehicles.
The sentence followed an incident which occurred on the night of January 16 this year where a complainant and his wife parked their motor vehicles and went to sleep. The following morning, they were shocked to discover that valuable items which were left in both vehicles as well as an undisclosed amount of money were missing.
According to the police, they reported the matter and preliminary investigations were conducted which found that the suspect had scaled the wall, entered the yard, opened both vehicles, and stole valuable items and cash.
A case docket with two counts of theft out of a motor vehicle was opened. Detective Sgt Tebogo Mmola commenced with the investigation.
Following the detective’s dedication, the suspect was apprehended and kept in the holding cells pending the outcome of the investigations.
The case was finalized and Maswanganyi was sentenced to 10 years jail term on each count without the option of a fine. The sentences will run concurrently.
