POLOKWANE – The Groblersdal Magistrate Court has sentenced a 26-year-old man from Tafelkop to life imprisonment for the rape of a four-year-old girl.
NPA spokesperson in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says the convict whose name cannot be revealed to protect the victim, raped the four-year-old in April 2021 and further gave her sweets and money to silence her after she went to his homestead to play.
She says during the trial the state led the oral evidence of the victim who identified the convict in the absence of DNA evidence.
Malabi-Dzhangi says the state prosecutor Moses Mathebe prayed for a life sentence and further argued that there are no substantial or compelling circumstances present to the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence.
She says in addition to life imprisonment, the court declared the convict unfit to possess a firearm, unfit to work with children and that his name is recorded in the sexual offender’s book
