CAPE TOWN – A Western Cape man has officially claimed the R163 552 190 PowerBall jackpot, the largest PowerBall prize of the year, following 21 rollovers, the National Lottery operator Ithuba confirmed.
The lucky winner bought a R30 ticket via the Nedbank banking app, choosing one Quick Pick ticket and another with numbers that hold personal meaning.
Initially, he thought he had won only R10 after receiving a routine app notification, but a call from his bank soon revealed the life-changing truth — he was now a multi-millionaire.
According to Ithuba, the winning numbers were 7, 10, 16, 21, 30 and PowerBall number 11, marking what has been described as a historic jackpot draw. Another player also walked away with over R31 million in the PowerBall PLUS game during the same night.
The ecstatic winner said he plans to use his fortune to transform his family’s future. Coming from humble beginnings, his first goal is to ensure financial stability and comfort for his loved ones.
He also shared some personal dreams — including surprising his wife with a high-end coffee machine, treating her and her sisters to a girls’ trip, and fulfilling his lifelong dream of travelling with his children to watch Manchester United live overseas.
Ithuba spokesperson Busisiwe Msizi congratulated the winner and encouraged responsible gaming habits, adding that more than 60% of PowerBall players now purchase tickets online or through banking apps.
This remarkable win marks a turning point in the life of the Western Cape man and his family — proving once again that with a little luck, dreams really can come true.
