NKOWANKOWA-A 37-year-old suspect is said to be on the loose after allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at section C in Nkowankowa, Greater Tzaneen.
According to the mother of the minor and a concerned neighbour who cannot be named to protect her identity, the girl was sent to a nearby spaza shop when the incident allegedly happened on Sunday September 24.
It is alleged that the man called the victim into his RDP house as she was walking to the shop. Once inside the house, he then ordered her to lie down, raped her while threatening to kill her if she screamed or told anyone and gave her fifty rands (R50) after the ordeal to buy her silence.
“The man confessed to raping the child when we confronted him after the child told us what happened. We also took the child to the hospital. The results confirmed that the child was indeed violated. It is sad because this man is someone we know and trusted”,.
The suspect reportedly ran away after the confrontation.
Ritavi police confirmed that a case was opened, however, the suspect has not been arrested yet.
