POLOKWANE: The Police at Lebowakgomo have arrested a male suspect who allegedly assaulted his heavily pregnant wife aged 36 with a hot iron at Seleteng Ga-Mphahlele, on Friday, 02 February 2024 at around 05h00.
According to information, the couple had an argument about a cellphone, and in the process, the victim’s husband plugged an electric iron and started to assault her with it.
She sustained injuries on both her hands. Thereafter, fled the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Police were alerted about the incident, and a case of Assault GBH was opened against the suspect.
He was traced and arrested the same day at Ga Mphahlele Makurung on Friday, 02 February 2024.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Major General Jan Scheepers has strongly condemned the incident and advised women to stand by each other to fight against such incidents. He said, “You are most encouraged to report these cases without feeling sorry for someone who abuses you.” Concluded Major General Scheepers.
The suspect will appear before Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 05 February 2024.
