KGAPANE- A 35-year-old man who stands accused of raping a heavily unconscious Bolodedu woman and recorded video at a local tarven in Ga-Rapitsi has been remanded in custody by the Bolobedu Magistrate’s court.
Ali Ngwako Makhubele was arrested this week and subsequently appeared in court on Wednesday, the 18th of May for allegedly raping Mosibudi Mohlaloganye while sleeping and drunk at a tarven in Ga-Rapitsi under Greater Letaba Municipality on Sunday morning, May 08.
The rape suspect who had no legal representation was remanded in custody until next week for the application of Legal Aid representation and formal bail application.
A source with inside knowledge of the case told Tzaneen Voice that the bail application process with Legal Aid might drag for long, because of many cases the law institution is facing.
“This matter might drag for more than 3 months for bail application; I think it will be postponed again for further investigations on the suspect’s criminal profile before a bail application can be considered ” the source said.
The source further stated that should the suspect admit of being guilty to the matter, and the Magistrate views the widely circulating video, they might be referred to the Regional Court in Tzaneen for bail application.
The suspect is expected back at the same court on Monday, May 23 for a formal bail application.
