Man accused of killing girlfriend rescued from mob justice

SESHEGO-A suspect aged 37, who is accused of killing his girlfriend was rescued by police from mob justice attack on Wednesday, November 08 t Mmotong outside Seshego.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the police were alerted about the incident and quickly rushed to the scene. On arrival, with backup from the members of Public Order Policing, they managed to rescue the suspect and rush him to the hospital as he was critically injured during a mob attack.

Preliminary investigations found that community members are accusing the male victim of the murder of his girlfriend, aged 31. The woman’s lifeless body was found at the boyfriend’s house after being reported missing on Saturday, 04 November 2023.

The woman’s body was recovered on Monday, 06 November 2023. She was identified as Rose Moabelo (31).

Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

The arrested suspect will soon appear before Seshego Magistrate’s Court, facing a charge of murder. The hunt for mob attack suspects is ongoing.

The Provincial Commissioner warns community members against lawless behaviour within communities.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, calls upon community members to resist the temptation of taking the law into their own hands. “If there is any crime committed, the police should be alerted so that investigations can commence,” said Lieutenant General, Thembi Hadebe. She added that gender-based violence is still a challenge, and we need to support each other by reporting these incidents to the police.
