NKOWANKOWA – A 42-year-old man tragically died after drowning in a swimming pool in Nkowankowa on Saturday, November 15. The incident occurred at around 20:15.
Ritavi police responded swiftly to the scene and, upon arrival, were directed to the body of the deceased, which had been covered with a duvet. His name is being withheld to respect the family’s privacy.
According to a police statement, it is alleged that the man was consuming alcohol with friends before he decided to get into the pool for a swim. After a few minutes, his friends realised they could no longer see him in the water.
They immediately sought assistance from a general worker at the lodge. Upon checking the pool, the man was found submerged. He was retrieved from the water, but efforts to save him were unsuccessful. He was certified dead by EMS personnel.
All relevant stakeholders were called to attend the scene, and the deceased was later transported to Letaba Government Mortuary by a forensic pathologist for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Family members have since been notified, and police investigations are ongoing.
