MALAMULELE – A brutal home invasion in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 May 2025, has left the Malamulele community reeling in shock after a 20-year-old learner from E.P.P. Mhinga Secondary School was shot and killed during the attack.
The incident occurred in Malamulele B2 when unknown armed suspects stormed the Khosa family home around 2 a.m. The suspects, reportedly wearing balaclavas and carrying firearms, demanded money from the 43-year-old father of the household. When he was unable to provide any, they tied him up and proceeded to search the house.
The suspects entered the bedroom where 20-year-old Xilaveko Khosa was asleep. He was shot in the head at close range. The attackers then moved to another room where Khosa’s 17-year-old sister was reportedly molested before the suspects looted the house.
Stolen items include mobile phones, a laptop, a 45cm HiSense TV, a bicycle, a Bosch chainsaw, and a grinder—collectively valued at approximately R36,000.
The father managed to free himself after the assailants fled and called for help. Neighbours assisted him in rushing his children to Malamulele Hospital, where Xilaveko was pronounced dead on arrival.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and police investigations are underway. Authorities confirmed that the suspects remain at large and the motive appears to be armed robbery.
The tragic incident has caused major disruption at E.P.P. Mhinga Secondary School, where fellow learners and teachers have suspended classes to mourn the loss. Residents of Malamulele have also indicated plans to embark on a protest, demanding justice for Xilaveko and increased police visibility in the area.
In a statement, the Khosa family expressed heartbreak and urged authorities to act swiftly. “We are shattered. Our child had dreams, and they were taken from him in the most cruel way. We need justice,” said a family member.
This shocking murder has intensified calls for stronger community policing and urgent intervention to address escalating crime in the region.
