Mabutla Innocentia Modiba, 39-year-old is the founder and owner of Innovative Events. She hails from the dusty streets of Kgapane in Bolobedu, where she was born and raised. According to Modiba, her successful events company always delivers events to the highest standard irrespective of how tight your budget is. Their style is immaculate and everything they touch turns into gold. This events company caters to all events from small intimate functions to big weddings.
Speaking exclusively to Tzaneen’s voice Modiba chuckles as she recalls how the idea to start this lucrative business came about.
“I had a child out of wedlock and I was bored with my life and struggling to make ends meet at the time. Three of my sisters got married in the same year and they all asked if I could help plan their weddings. I organized all three weddings, needless to say, they were all planned remarkably. To my amazement after the last wedding, I had people now approaching me to help organize their functions because they had seen my work and they were impressed. That’s how innovative events were born and I have never looked back since” she said.
Meanwhile, she was still working a 9-5 job; she mentions she didn’t let that deter her from the hunger to succeed in the business.
“I continued to work while I saved up money to manage the business. I subsequently resigned from my job in September 2012 and started working on my business full time. I find joy and fulfillment in what I do and that has sustained me and kept me going throughout these years,” she added.
However, she states that there have been some challenges that have hindered her from branching out and growing her business. The biggest challenge has been getting funding from banks. Maodiba managed to keep her business afloat during lockdown when businesses had shut down. She credits God for mercy. “I feel a great sense of peace after paying my employees. That must be my biggest achievement” she mentioned.
“In business, you must not always be chasing money. For me, it’s a God-given purpose. To aspiring entrepreneurs, follow your dreams and feed your energy. Energy dies but your passion doesn’t.” Modiba advises. She further says her motto is: “Everything is achievable if you put all your energy to it. The words “I cannot” must not exist in one’s vocabulary.” She concluded
