By Agreement Mabunda
TZANEEN-Afro-house and dance music duo Mabrino Drumboyz, from Ramotshinyadi, Bolobedu in Greater Tzaneen, has won numerous awards through their unique African sound.
They tell stories through their music, with each song serving as a chapter in a book. The duo is made up of DJ, Producer, and vocalist Junior Monyepao Rasekgwalo and percussionist/producer Brian Malefofane, also known as Mabrino.

Both Mabrino and DJ Cry developed a love and passion for music as children. It was thrilling from the beat’s production through to the lyrical content.
Mabrino, the Duo’s percussionist, developed his love of music while still a child by playing the drums in the church band. DJ Cry Dj of the Duo grew raised in a household where listening to music was the norm. His mentor and uncle were also experts in sound systems.
“When we met we had to look at the whole music industry and what it had to offer. We then realized that there was a gap that was growing daily in terms of modern music taking over and the extinction of African cultural music.

We thought it would be better if we could come up with something unique yet relevant to close the gap in the market”, declared Mabrino.
So, in 2018, everything worked out well, and Mabrino Drumboyz was established. Since then, they have released four singles as independent artists, including Meropa le ditshipi ft. Moses Kruzar, Naka ya Mokhure ft. Moses Kruzar (nominated for Limpopo Music Awards 2021 Best Khelobedu Hit), Makoma ft. Moses Kruzar, Pula ft. Maylanalo (nominated for Limpopo Music Awards 2021 Best Collaboration/Group), and Ngiyabuya ft Dr Moruti and Nuzu Deep ( Nominated for Limpopo Music Award 2022 Best Dance Hit).
What sets them apart is the sincerity of the message conveyed in each of their songs. The mission of Mabrino’s Brumboyz is to spread knowledge about African heritage and culture.
They are driven by African culture, therefore they incorporate parts of African music into urban sounds.
They also hold the view that everything around them, including their African origin and culture, serves as their source of inspiration; as a result, their music helps to maintain the lovely African culture.
Also, they use traditional drums that stand out and are dressed in African clothing during their live performances to pique interest and establish a connection with young people.
Before the end of April 2023, Mabrino intends to release two songs in which they will work with prominent Limpopo artists.
Young artists get a lot of advice, but the one that sticks was given by a seasoned Afro-House Producer, Dr Moruti when he says
“ To make it in the music industry, your focus should be split into 80% business and 20% talent because talent alone is not enough, it should be supported by a sound business mind”.
Mabrinos have two shows scheduled for Botswana on February 25, 2023, and a third in Swaziland on March 25, 2023, where they will be performing live.
