POLOKWANE – A long convoy of hearses was spotted passing through the Baobab Toll Gate on Friday, October 24, en route to Zimbabwe, carrying the 29 bodies of the DNC bus disaster victims. The convoy is expected to arrive at Doves Beitbridge later today.
The Limpopo Provincial Government confirmed that the process for repatriating the 29 Zimbabwean nationals involved in the N1 Louis Trichardt bus accident on 12 October 2025 has been completed.
All identification procedures have been finalised, allowing the bodies to be transported to Zimbabwe today.
Provincial authorities noted that seven children still require specialised DNA testing for identification. The government is also working closely with the Malawi government to finalise the list of eight additional bodies that will need to be repatriated.
The repatriation process follows the identification of victims by their families on Monday, 20 October 2025, during which Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba joined families to confirm the identities of their loved ones.
“We want to thank all teams from both the provincial and national governments involved in making this process bearable, assisting the two countries in identifying the next of kin. Our words of appreciation go to both embassies for their full cooperation during these difficult procedures.
This will allow families to have closure as they now have an opportunity to bury their loved ones,” said Premier Dr Ramathuba.
