Limpopo Social Development Department Starts Distribution Of Food Relief to Families Affected By Floods

POLOKWANE-The households that have been affected by the localised floods in Vhembe and Mopani district respectively have started receiving relief from the Department of Social Development.
An assessment conducted by the department’s social workers, community development practitioners, and other government officials found that majority of the affected families were in the Vhembe district.
These families were identified in the Thulamela, Collins Chabane, Musina, Makhado, and Greater Letaba local Municipalities. The relief of distress will be in the form of food parcels, dignitary packs, blankets, and other necessities.
Many families were unfortunately displaced due to the continuing rain after Cyclone Eloise that hit Mozambique and spread to other parts of the country.”Our social workers are also providing psychological support to the affected families. We again urge everyone in our communities to exercise caution to ensure that we do not have any casualties. Furthermore, children and vulnerable groups must steer clear of waterlogged areas to avoid drowning”. MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale reiterated.
The number is expected to rise as the assessments are still underway. The dedicated team’s comprising of social workers, community development practioners, and disaster management officers are working tirelessly to assist those affected in the areas
