Limpopo Planned Patient vehicle robbed on the N1

POLOKWANE-The Limpopo Department of Health personnel and patients were robbed at gunpoint by two unknown men on the N1 outside  Mantsole Weigh Bridge earlier this morning.

According to the Department Spokesperson Neil Shikwambana a Planned  Patient Transport got a puncture while transporting patients from Nkhensani and Maphutha Malatji Hospital in Mopani District to George Mkhari Hospital.

When the driver stopped to inspect the vehicle, he found spikes on the tyre, and immediately two men armed with guns appeared and started searching everybody and took bank cards, money, cell phones, and other belongings.

“The vehicle was carrying 04 patients, 02 transferring nurses, and 02 EMS drivers,” he said

Fortunately, one patient had a cellphone that the thugs were unable to take and the crew managed to report the incident to the police who came and assisted them.

The Limpopo Department of Health condemns the robbing of Nurses,patients and EMS Personell.

The patients were then transported to George Mkhari Hospital by a scheduled PPT from Warmbath Hospital.
