POLOKWANE- The Limpopo MEC for Health, Dieketseng Mashego, has ordered an immediate investigation into a male nurse employed by the department, following his alleged involvement in a social media post that sexualizes children.

The investigation aims to determine if grounds exist for a misconduct case.

The controversy arose after a Facebook post, which depicted children as sex objects, gained widespread attention and elicited disturbing comments from users.

It has been established that a comment, deemed particularly reprehensible, originated from a profile believed to belong to a male nurse within the Limpopo Department of Health.

MEC Mashego condemned the comments, stating that they perpetuate a culture of child abuse, rape, and gender-based violence, issues that plague the nation.

“It is imperative that we foster an environment that protects children and promotes their rights, rather than one that trivializes or sexualizes their existence,” she emphasized.

The MEC reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of child sexualization or comments that normalize violence against women and children.

“We are dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment and will not tolerate behavior that undermines these values,” she stated.

MEC Mashego called upon the community to stand in solidarity against these acts and urged them to report any instances of child abuse or gender-based violence.

The investigation into the nurse’s alleged misconduct is ongoing.
