Limpopo Department of Social Development Warns of a Tender Scam

Limpopo Department of Social Development would like to warn members of the public and service providers of fraudsters who are demanding money from unsuspecting service providers by promising them tenders.

It has come to the attention of the Department that the fraudsters are using the letterhead of the Department and impersonating the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Cyril Dlamini, by calling and sending emails to suppliers asking them to make upfront payments into a bank account in return for being awarded tenders.

The Department would like to caution that no employee of the Department of Social Development is allowed to interact with suppliers demanding money or other favors in return for tenders. When the Department needs to procure goods, services, or works, it does so through an open tender process or calls for quotes using its website as well as details of suppliers on the CSD.

Suppliers who happen to be contacted by these fraudsters are urged to immediately contact the police or the Department of Social Development. The matter has now been referred to the law enforcement agencies for further probing.
