LEPHEPANE: Former University of Pretoria football team physiotherapist Sekhwela “SK” Seroto has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his career, joining Yanga SC in Tanzania.

The 34-year-old physio from Lephepane, Long Valley under Great Tzaneen will now be part of the 30-time Premier League title winners after spending several years at Amatuks.

“I have relocated to Tanzania with my family. I’m super proud to represent my village Lephepane, my Town Tzaneen and my country” Seroto said.

He expressed his excitement about joining Yanga SC, eager to gain international experience as a physiotherapist. His responsibilities include leading the physiotherapy department, ensuring players are well-rehabilitated, fit, and in peak condition to play, as well as focusing on injury prevention.

Amatuks announced Seroto’s departure with a heartfelt message: “We bid farewell to our physio and Sekhwela ‘SK’ Seroto who will be joining Young African Sports Club in Tanzania. Thank you for all the years of hard work and dedication. We wish you all the best at your new home.”

In 2023, Young Africa made history as the first Tanzanian club to reach a CAF Confederation Cup final, defeating Marumo Gallants 4-1 on aggregate. Although they lost to USM Algiers on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw, Yanga SC clinched the Tanzania Premier League Championship for the third consecutive time in the 2023-24 season.

Yanga SC arrived in South Africa for pre-season games in Mbombela, where they will face German Bundesliga’s FC Augsburg, TS Galaxy and Mbabane Swalows in the inaugural four-team Premier’s International Cup.

The friendly international matches will take place over two weekends with the first set of matches playing on 20 July 2024.

On July 28, they are set to play against Kaizer Chiefs in the Free State.
