LENYENYE-Koko Macheba Flora Makgato who is currently living at Lenyenye in Greater Tzaneen turned 100 years old on Wednesday (July 20).
Koko Makgato was born on 20-07-1922, raised at Ga- Makgato near Munnik and relocated to Eisleben, Ga-Masekela following forced removals.
She said family and her Evangelical Lutheran Church have always been an “important factor” in her life.
She has been a member and served in the Prayer Women’s League for over 60 years.
She was married to the late Makgoana Samuel Makgato and they were blessed with seven children, one of whom, Sello, has died. Lawrence, Kate, Selaa, Mamokitimi, Madira, and Raofa are the remaining children.
She has 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren
After getting married the couple lived in Sharpeville, Vereeniging until they moved to Phusela Location, then to Tzaneen, and finally to Lenyenye Township.
She celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday with close family, neighbours and Evangelical Lutheran church members.
One of her granddaughters said Koko still have a sharp memory and the ability to tell stories.
Her secret to a long and happy life is a sense of humour and prayer.
