How Lindiwe Mogale was murdered

POLOKWANE: The Limpopo Division of the High Court in Polokwane has on Thursday sentenced Malesela Freddy Modiba for the murder of his girlfriend, Lindiwe Mogale.

Modiba, who was dating three different women at the time and Lindiwe, who is believed to be his other girlfriend, had an argument over a phone.

Modiba wanted to go through Lindiwe’s cellphone but a fight broke out when she refused.

Modiba then poured a petrol on Lindiwe’s body and set her alight at around 3am on the 6th of May, locked the doors and then left the house.

Modiba’s younger brother, Issac had to kick down the door so that they can all come out but Lindiwe was badly burnt.

After the incident, Modiba went to his sister in Bolobedu and the next day he went to Johannesburg in Gauteng.

On the 14th of May, he then heard that his girlfriend had died. He then called his friend to come and pick him up. The friend did so.

On the 19th of May 2021, Modiba decided to hand himself over to the police after not being found since the 6th of May 2021.

Freddy is an electrician, yet he allowed petrol a substance that is dangerous, inflammable and has an odd smell to be put in the bedroom.

Modiba was facing two charges but he pleaded not guilty on count 1 of murder and count 2 of damage to property.

The court has heard that Modiba has history in damaging property, were on the 5th of November 2014, he was previously fined R400 after being found guilty by the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court for malicious damage.

Modiba was found guilty and was sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment for murder and 3 years for malicious damage to property on the basis that the court takes it into consideration he was drunk and reckless on the night of incident.
