PRETORIA – The search for missing Kulani Shirinda, 22, took an unexpected turn after a viral video from Zanzou nightclub sparked widespread speculation.

The video, showing a man motionless on the ground, led many internet users to believe the person was Kulani, who disappeared on August 26, 2023.

Theories circulated online, particularly on X, that the man may have been attacked by nightclub bouncers.

However, the mystery was recently cleared up when the man in the video came forward to confirm he was alive.

He explained that he had been working as a promoter at the nightclub at the time but had no recollection of the incident. Despite the viral attention, he made it clear he did not want to be connected to the case or involved in any legal actions.

Kulani, a student at Central Johannesburg TVET College, was last seen in the Maboneng area of Johannesburg before reportedly being picked up by a white Isuzu bakkie. Since then, there have been no leads.

His family remains deeply concerned, as his social media accounts have been inactive since August 2023.

The Shirinda family continues to call for any information about Kulani’s whereabouts.

South African Police have registered the case at Jeppe Police Station, and Detective Makhubele contacted at 011 624 6000 is leading the investigation. The family remains hopeful that someone has information that can bring Kulani home.
