POLOKWANE- The Limpopo Department of Education received a substantial number of applications for admission in some schools for the 2021 academic year. This has unfortunately resulted in schools opening today with some learners still unplaced.
Parents and guardians who still have not received letters of placement from the schools they applied for are therefore advised to visit their Circuit Offices to register children for placing in the next nearest available school.
The 2021 school year started with the return of school management teams and educators to schools on 25 January and 01 February, respectively. This was to ensure that they plan for the return of learners and through this identify challenges that needed to be addressed to ensure that learners were protected against the COVID-19 pandemic when they returned to schools. For this purpose, schools have completed the placing of learners in terms of the applications they received and their capacity.
In placing learners, priority was given to those staying within the feeder zone of the school. Any unplaced learners were placed on a list that Circuit Offices and District Offices are dealing with.
These are mainly due to lack of space in their school of choice or those whose parents migrated to new areas after the application processes had closed. Such learners will be placed in the next nearest school to their place of residence.
The Department assures parents and guardians that the matter of school admissions is deemed critical and that all is being done to ensure that their children are placed in schools for the 2021 academic year as soon as possible.
