PHALABORWA-As we continue to celebrate women and honour all women during this Women’s Month, we celebrate the 31-year-old, Hlekani Shikwambana is the producer and radio host of Capricorn Fm.
She was born and raised in Namakgale outside Phalaborwa, she started her school at Gravelotte Laerskool and matriculated at Frans Du Toit High School. Shikwambana spent a few of her childhood years at JCI now known as Consmurch mine, a small mining community outside Phalaborwa. However, her family then moved to Lulekani where they have since settled.
Becoming a radio host is one of the sought-after professions the world over. You become the face and voice of the radio. Your voice must scream confidence and be well-read.
Shikwambana who has been working at Capricorn FM for over a decade says her charisma and personality shine through and radio is like her second nature. She explained that this is because of her name “Hlekani”, which means laughter.
“My life is full of laughter. I started at the station while I was still studying B.A Media Studies at the University of Venda. I heard there were auditions and I entered. I was interviewed and a few months later, I landed the job. The rest, as they say, is history “. She reflected
The talented radio personality indicates the journey has been absolutely amazing and she is honoured. Furthermore, she indicated that it has given her room to grow. “The space I am in has taught me accountability. I have grown immensely as a mother, producer, radio host and in my other aspirations because I am the founder and owner of Saseka studio for nails and lashes”. she said proudly.
Shikwambana says as she reflects on women’s month, she wishes for women to love themselves.
“My advice to women stems from a word I hear a lot on social media although I feel it is used loosely and nonchalantly.” Tirhandze/ zithande” meaning, love yourself. It’s a beautiful thing. When you love yourself, you become stingy with yourself, your time, your resources, and your space. Not everyone will have access to you. You learn it is not important to be strong all the time. You know when to say no to things that are not beneficial to you. You are able to keep away from things that waste your time and things that hurt you. You are able to identify things that are good and not good for you. Love is powerful “she concluded.
People can tune in to Capricorn FM to listen to her shows. Monday to Friday between 9 and 12 middays for the tailored experience and the Sunday restoration from 6-10 in the morning on Sundays. #TzaneenVoice #mopaniwomen50
