Groblersdal assault-accused kept in police custody after postponement

GROBLERSDAL- The 50-year-old assault accused, Corrie Pretorious to spend further 7 days in Police custody after the Groblersdal magistrate court postponed his bail application on Friday, June 17 on charges of assault and pointing of firearm.

Corrie Pretorious was arrested on Thursday on the allegations of assaulting a 16-year-old boy at gunpoint during an argument over a food seasoning, outside a food outlet in Groblersdal Game Center in Sekhukhune District on Wednesday night.

It is alleged that the argument ensued after the victim and his cousin wanted to use the same food seasoning as the suspect, which led the suspect to be furious and started to assault the teenager until he found himself lying on the ground, while captured on the video, which angered many South Africans.

While the suspect was brutally kicking the victim, other shoppers watched helplessly.

ANC and EFF members gathered outside the Groblersdal magistrate’s court in their regalia chanting “kill the boer, kill the farmer “.

The suspect will be back in the same court on Friday, 24 June for bail application.
