BUSHBUCKRIDGE: An 18-year-old Grade 12 learner has died after being bitten by a snake on Monday night, 27 November.
The deceased was a learner at Mawewe Secondary School in Matsavana Circuit in Dumphries Village in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
The incident occurred at the school during a Grade 12 camp organized as part of improving the preparation of learners for the 2023 National Senior Certificate Examination.
The MEC for Education, Mr Bonakele Majuba says the Department has received the news with shock and extend their heartfelt condolences to the learner’s family, school and teachers during this difficult time.
The MEC will visit the school and the bereaved family at 14H00 later today.
Learners at the school are receiving counseling.
