MAAPANE VILLAGE-A group of residents from Mapaana village, ward 3, in the Greater Letaba Municipality, came together to fix water pipes in the village. The group averred that the winds of change are moving at a snail’s pace in the area.
According to Cedric Maake, the exposed pipes burst open from time to time when cars move around. He said that this is because the roads are badly damaged and the pipes get cracked by cars inevitably causing a scarcity of water.
“The pipes were exposed meaning when cars drive on them they burst open. We took it upon ourselves to fix the problem. We collected pipes from the municipal offices and did the actual work ourselves because the municipality takes too long to solve problems “, Maake said.
It is further said that low-lying electricity poles in the village and surrounding areas that are left unattended by Eskom were fixed by the community members fearing that children might get electrocuted while playing.
The publication contacted the Greater Letaba Municipality media liaison to get a comment and we were informed that water repairs fall under the jurisdiction of Mopani District Municipality.
MDM media liaison Odas Ngobeni assured the publication that he will investigate the matter to establish facts.
