SEKGOSESE-Four suspects, believed to be behind a series of ATM bombings in Limpopo, appeared before the Senwamokgope Periodical Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 2, 2024. The accused, aged between 33 and 45, were remanded in custody until December 9, 2024, for profiling and a potential bail application.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday morning, November 30, 2024, following a joint operation by the Limpopo Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigation Unit, and the SAPS Explosive Unit. The arrest came after authorities received intelligence about the suspects’ plans to commit ATM bombings in the Tzaneen area.
The four individuals are facing multiple serious charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of prohibited firearms, possession of prohibited ammunition, and violations under the Explosives Act. Their arrests come in the wake of a spate of ATM bombings that have left communities on edge in recent months.
During the operation, police recovered significant evidence linking the suspects to the planned criminal activities. Among the items seized were three Ruger 44 rifles, 40 live rounds of ammunition, three Expolgel explosives, a number of blasting cartridges, as well as balaclavas and hand gloves. These items suggest that the suspects were preparing for more ATM bombings in the region.
The police continue to investigate the matter, and authorities have indicated that further details will be made available as the case progresses.
The arrest of these suspects has been hailed as a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized crime in Limpopo. Local residents, especially those in areas affected by the ATM bombings, are hopeful that the investigation will bring an end to the wave of violent crimes that have disrupted their communities.
As the legal proceedings continue, the focus now shifts to the profiling of the suspects and the possible bail application, which will be heard on December 9. Investigations remain ongoing, and authorities have urged the public to come forward with any further information that could assist in solving the case.
