CAROLINA – Four people tragically lost their lives on Sunday, 16 November 2025, following a horrific head-on collision between two sedans on the R38 road between Hendrina and Carolina.

The crash claimed the lives of two passengers and a driver in one of the vehicles, as well as the driver of the second sedan, who was travelling alone. All four victims were declared dead at the scene, and no additional injuries were reported.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the fatal collision to determine the cause of the crash.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially during the ongoing rainy weather. He stressed that wet conditions significantly reduce visibility and affect vehicle control.

“We are therefore calling for heightened vigilance and stricter adherence to the rules in order to avoid devastating crashes. Motorists must operate their vehicles in line with prevailing conditions on the road. They must reduce speed and increase following distances,” Macie said.

The MEC extended condolences to the families of the deceased and called on road users to prioritise safety to prevent further loss of life.
