NKOWANKOWA-A foreign male shop owner is set to appear before the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court in Nkowankowa on Tuesday, a charge of attempted rape.
The shop owner allegedly tried to rape a 12 – year old girl who was buying food items at his spaza on Sunday.
According to a report received by this publication, the young girl managed to escape from the claws of the suspect and reported the matter to Ritavi police.
The Police visited the shop on Monday and arrested the suspect on the spot.
However, the mother of the 12 – year old girl says she lives in fear after her family was threatened by the brother of the shop owner.
“The brother of the suspect went to my mother’s house on Monday and harrased her. They told her that she must call me so that I can drop the charges against the shop owner so that he can be freed,” said the distraught mother, whose identity has been withheld for fear of victimization.
During the arrest on Monday, other community members told the police that the 12 – year old girl was not the first victim to complain about the sexual advances made by the shop owner.
Community members have pleaded with the police to hand them matter before they take the laws unto their hands.
