MARIVENI-The residents of Mariveni, in Greater Tzaneen, were up in arms on Thursday morning calling on illegal immigrants who have settled in the area to vacate.

This comes after a resident was allegedly attacked in his home and stabbed with a sharp object and his property was vandalized earlier in the week.

The residents alleged that this is one of many such incidents.

Moreover, they said that the suspects are known in the area and it is for this reason that they demand the police fast-track the process of arresting them before they cause more damage and harm.

“We are held hostage by these criminals and we are tired. They destroy our homes and are never arrested because they are not traceable”, an anonymous said.

Letsitele police station Colonel Mukansi was contacted and he emphasized that the situation was under control.

“We plead with the community to allow the law to take its cause. There are due processes that we must follow and can only make arrests provided we have admissible evidence to present in court”, Mukansi said.
