GROOTPAN VILLAGE : A 41-year-old man appeared before Senwabarwana Magistrate court on Tuesday, 07 November 2023, facing charges of attempted murder and arson that occurred at the Grootpan village, Maleboho policing area.
According to the information at this stage, the victim, who is the wife of the suspect, was asleep at home with four children when the husband returned home while under the influence of alcohol, an argument ensued and the woman ran outside together with two of their children to seek assistance from a relative staying in the same neighbourhood.
She came back home only to find that it was burning, while her twins, who were five years old were inside.
She quickly managed to rescue them, and they were both taken to a local hospital for medical attention. One child suffered burns on the head.
The suspect was immediately arrested on Monday, 06 November 2023 at Grootpan village and charged with attempted murder and arson.
The case was remanded for 20 November for a formal bail application.
