POLOKWANE- Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) ward 10 councillor in the Polokwane Municipality, Jacob Seshoka and his co-accused have been remanded in police custody by the Seshego Magistrate’s court.

Seshoka along with his co-accused appeared before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 03, on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of illegal explosives.

The EFF councillor and his six co-accused were arrested on the 28 December 2023 in Bloodriver, outside Seshego township

The accused will be back at the same court for a formal bail application on Friday, 12 January 2024, while kept in police custody.

The EFF councillor and his six co-accused were arrested on 28 December 2023 in Bloodriver, outside Seshego township, on allegations of breaking into the Limpopo SAPS Stock Theft Unit office in Polokwane and stealing firearms and 400 rounds of live ammunition.

Members of the ActionSA in Limpopo led by its provincial chairperson Kgosi Letsiri Phaahla, who were protesting outside the court, welcomed the court’s decision to keep the EFF councillor and his co-accused detained.

While addressing the media after the court’s proceeding, Phaahla said ” In the interest of justice, we applaud the court for keeping him detained. We are of the firm belief that a possibly hardened criminal like him, who stands accused of a schedule 5 offence, should not be allowed to return to the community”.

The EFF in Limpopo is yet to provide its view on the charges in which its ward councillor, Jacob Seshoka is facing.

Seshoka became Polokwane Ward 10 councillor through by-elections last year in January after EFF won the ward ahead of ANC and ActionSA.
