MARIVENI- The EFF in ward 23 under Greater Tzaneen Municipality pins a blame on the municipality after a lifeless body of a man in his late 50s from Petanenge Village, was found floating on the Mariveni river after two days of missing outside Nkowankowa township.
The missing body of a man identified as Mr Mpenyana was found in a river in the morning of Tuesday, January 3.
It is alleging that Mpenyana met his untimely death after failing to cross a self-made low-lying bridge that connects three villages, alleges EFF PR councillor Isaac Hlungwana.
It is said that Mpenyana drowned to death in the river after failing to cross a low-lying bridge that is made up of two woods, which are tightened by wires.

Hlugwana further said Mpenyana’s death could be the 10th one from the self-made low-lying bridge that connects Mariveni with Shipungu and Petanenge villages.
“For over a decade the ANC-led municipality in Tzaneen together with its councillors of ward 23 have never come up with a solution to fix nor provide an alternative safe way measure to move in between the Mariveni, Shipungu and Petanenge villages” EFF PR councillor said.
In a letter dated 3rd January 2023, The EFF wrote to the speaker of Greater Tzaneen Municipality councillor Sanie Tiba to move with the motion for the construction of a low-level bridge between Mariveni and Patanenge villages.
” The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) hereby moves that in the next council sitting the House debates that the municipality make provision for the construction of low-level bridge that connects Mariveni village (ward 23) with Shipungu and Petanenge villages” the letter reads.
